AJ Beedie – President
AJB Consulting Owner and President AJ Beedie brings decades of experience in information technology, finance, accounting operations, commercial and multifamily real estate to AJB Consulting. Before launching the firm in 2011, AJ served as Vice President of Information Technologies for ConAm Management, a real estate management and investment firm specializing in multifamily housing that managed roughly 380 property locations with 1,600 associates, where he was responsible for a $3.2 million annual IT budget and led 18 full-time employees across three teams. AJ’s past experience also includes stints as Vice President of Finance & Systems at real estate merchant banking servicer SKB Companies in Portland; as a senior consultant for MRI Real Estate Software®, where he led a team of six consultants and three project managers to manage end-to-end engagements for clients; and as a senior consultant for Intuit FundWare, where he was responsible for software upgrades and training with existing clients, system design, conversion, and implementation management. AJ holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Denver.
Todd Trumbo – Owner and Accounting Services Practice Area Leader
Todd Trumbo is a creative, solutions-oriented executive with a broad range of multidisciplinary experience. As AJB Consulting’s Co-Owner and Accounting Services Practice Area Leader, Todd is responsible for managing commercial property owners’ financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and monthly and year-end financial reporting, and is dedicated to ensuring clients’ accounting processes are streamlined, effective, and efficient. Todd holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of Charleston, a B.A. in Interior Architecture from the Interior Designers Institute in Newport Beach, Calif., and a culinary arts degree from Johnson and Wales University in Vail, Colo. His vast array of professional experience reflects his wide-ranging interests and includes stints as chef, as the owner of a catering business, and as a conceptual designer for bars, clubs, and restaurants.
Kathy Hagen – Resident Management Practice Area Leader
Kathy Hagen, MultiFamily Practice Area Leader, brings 30 years of experience with ConAm Management to the team. During her career at ConAm, Kathy held leadership positions in the Banking, Accounting and IT departments and was integral in growing the business from 150 to over 350 properties. As Director of Business Applications, Kathy managed the support and development teams responsible for accounting and property management solutions. Kathy worked with external clients, software vendors, and on-site, regional and corporate teams to ensure the software met their needs. Drawing on her wealth of experience, Kathy led several major implementation projects where she was involved in all aspects of planning, software configuration, testing, data migration, documentation, and training. She has extensive experience in supporting accounting and residential business functions for both conventional and affordable properties in MRI, Yardi, and Bostonpost. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Katie Stadtmuller – Technical Practice Area Leader
Katie Stadtmuller, Technical Practice Area Leader, is a seasoned Real Estate IT professional with over 15 years experience working at a variety of companies and with various software platforms. During that time, she participated in the entire software development life cycle, from discussing requirements with end users to development, QA, deployment, and training. Katie’s varied experience in the industry enables her to understand customers’ needs and make recommendations to ensure a positive end result. She has worked extensively with both the MRI toolkit and Yardi reporting tools and also has completed multiple large-scale data migrations, with a strong focus on data integrity to create a smooth transition.
Laurie Swertfager – Compliance and Affordable Housing Practice Area Leader
Laurie Swertfager draws on more than 18 years of experience in residential real estate compliance and property management in her capacity as AJB Consulting’s Compliance and Affordable Housing Practice Area Leader. Laurie provides additional support between the software and the requirements of affordable programs (LIHTC, HUD, HOME and RD) to ensure the expectations of our clients are achieved through internal processes as well as the full functionality available within the software used. Prior to joining AJB in 2017, Laurie spent nearly her entire career with ConAm Management in Central California, where she was responsible for the company’s more than 220 affordable housing communities nationwide and trained, audited, and supported all company properties in California, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, and Missouri. Laurie is experienced in working with on-site, regional, and corporate office staff and executives to ensure affordable housing program compliance and continuity across policies, procedures, training, and operating standards. She holds a California real estate license, an ARM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management, and the Housing Credit Certified Professional designation from the National Association of Home Builders, and is a Certified Occupancy Specialist and Tax Credit Specialist through the National Center for Housing Management. Laurie is also a certified National Credit Professional-Executive through the Housing Credit College.
Mike Reed – Consultant
Mike Reed brings two years of prior experience working as a Technical Account Manager on Yardi’s Affordable Housing Client Success team, where he assisted clients from coast to coast to meet their technical and training needs and ensure they got the most value possible from their investment in Yardi Voyager. He also is a Certified Occupancy Specialist, which complements his depth of knowledge regarding affordable housing compliance and procedures. Clients rely on Mike’s strong understanding of residential and core functionality within Voyager, his experience in SQL programming, and his unique understanding of Voyager’s database structures. Mike is well-versed in Voyager’s accounting functionality and taught all four Affordable Accounting classes at YASC San Diego in 2017, covering topics ranging from set-up, monthly procedures, reporting, and troubleshooting processes. Mike holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a minor in Applied Psychology.
